"When Irish Eyes Dot Com" was a solo show presented and performed by actor Chris Sullivan, which had a sell out world premiere performance on Saint Patrick's Day, 2000 at Santa Monica Playhouse, California.
A change of title to 'IRISH EYES' was a sufficient enough title for a mini British tour in April 2002 and a further title has change to 'CHRIS SULLIVAN 'S ONE MAN IRISH SHOW' for The Edinburgh Festival where it ran at the KOMEDIA THEATRE at the Roman Eagle Lodge for the month of August in 2002.
The permanent title now is A BIT OF IRISH.
There are many Irish writers: Brendan Behan, James Joyce, Sean O'Casey, John Millington Synge, Oscar Wilde, William Butler Yeats, George Bernard Shaw and many many more. The show, which is an Irish celebration, will feature songs, poetry and speeches from some of the above, plus some funny stories and the odd sing-along from and about Ireland.
There was no show at the Santa Monica Playhouse in 2007; A BIT OF IRISH was originally booked but for some reason the theatre made a mistake and double booked; so after seven years the Santa Monica Playhouse run came to an end; but in 2008 there are two venues; the first is a return to Santa Monica Playhouse and the second is in London at the prime ‘Off-West-End’ Jermyn Street Theatre.
Santa Monica Playhouse will host the show for one night only on March 11th – one week earlier than St Patrick’s Day - at 8.00 pm; call the box office at 310 394 9779 for details.
The Jermyn Street Theatre hosts the show for a one week run – 6 performances altogether – opening on Monday March 17th at 8.00 pm – St Patrick’s Day; the box office is on 0208 287 2875 and their web site is http://www.jermynstreettheatre.co.uk
Also – watch out for Chris in London’s St Patrick’s Day Parade a day earlier on Sunday March 16th.
